A little mini interview with Alex from Vintage Rose Cupcakes.
On one of those perfect spring days that remind you how beautiful the English country side is , I took a drive to Tunbridge Wells to chat to the lovely Alex from Vintage Rose Cupcakes….and yes we did eat just a little bit of cake!
Alex could you tell us how you got into baking?
I started baking because both of the children had sever food allergies. I felt this was so unfair on them and wanted them to be able to have the same as other children. That is how it began, and from there friends, kept suggesting I should take it further, but it wasn’t until I saw a friend with her small business at the Wealden Times fair that I really started to think about it seriously. Now I’m two years in and love running a small business that fits with family life.
What is trending in cake design now?
Naked cakes! Yes that is such a thing, and is a cake with no icing on the outside. They tend to be quite highly tiered, with jam and cream oozing out from the layers. They are usually decorated on top with fresh flowers, very natural and pretty looking. Cup cakes with I obviously love making are a firm favourite too.
How long does it take to make a one of your tiered cakes?
All of my tiered wedding cakes take about a week to make, some times a little longer depending of the amount of hand crafted sugar flowers is going on it.
YUM, YUM, YUM! Thanks for having me to tea, Alex xxx
