Hello and hope you are having a relaxing and cosy weekend? Today I would like to introduce you to the wonderful Ellie from The Beauty Aisle. Ellie does the most beautiful, light and natural bridal makeup. Having been lucky enough to work with Ellie on a number of shoots, I cannot speak highly enough of her skills. Here she is to tell us a little bit more about herself and inspiration…
Tell us a little bit about yourself?
My name is Ellie. I am the make-up artist behind The Beauty Aisle. I work mostly on weddings but I have also been lucky enough to work with celebrities, on fashion magazines and music videos. I’ve teamed up with Matilda on a few projects after chatting to her at a craft fair and some on my favourite pictures in my portfolio are by her.
Where do you find inspiration?
I find inspiration in lots of places; art exhibitions, other make-up artists I’ve assisted and I find lots of my brides inspirational too.
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
My job is immensely rewarding, I think that’s what motivates me the most! I moved house in the summer and when I picked up my post I had a pile of the most amazing letters and thank you cards from my clients. Knowing that I helped make the start of their wedding day happy, calm and enjoyable is really satisfying.
What is the best advise you have ever received?
Don’t give up! It’s taken a little while for me to get my business running. I didn’t have a plan or any funding, as such but 2015 is looking super busy. I truly believe that you can do anything you want to do, as long as you put your heart and soul into it.
Any words of advise for brides on the lead up to the wedding?
Use website like pinterest, blogs and even Instagram to find pictures of make-up that you like. Even if you’re not sure if it could suit you get a little collection of inspirational images together. When brides come to me with a rough idea of what they like it makes my job a lot easier.
Your top tips for glowing skin?
It’s been said time and time again but cleanse, tone and moisturise! I always use natural skin care just because I’ve found it to be the most effective, especially when tackling problem skin types. For example rose is great for balancing skin if you suffer with acne and almond is deeply moisturising. Do a bit of research and invest in some nice quality products. You don’t need to spend a fortune. My favourite skincare comes from Lush and Neal’s Yard Remedies.
What product do you have in your makeup case that you couldn’t do with out?
There are so many things in my kit I couldn’t live without! If one thing is missing I notice straight away! My brushes and tools are my babies. The one thing I’ve invested in which I find super-useful is a foundation and concealer palette from Bobbi Brown. It’s got a colour for every skin tone and gives a flawless, natural finish.
