Turner Contemporary Wedding Margate | Nadia & Ed
Some weddings stay with you long after you’ve packed away your cameras. Nadia and Ed’s Turner Contemporary wedding in Margate is one of those days. I loved this wedding – not just because of how it looked (although it looked incredible), but because of how personal it felt from start to finish.
Margate isn’t just a backdrop for Nadia and Ed. It’s part of their story. It’s part of mine too – I live in Margate, and the Turner Contemporary is literally a ten-minute walk from my house. We also photographed their engagement shoot here, in the same place Ed proposed to Nadia, and it’s somewhere they’ve spent countless long summer weekends, wandering, eating well, and enjoying the coast together. Getting married here felt completely right.

A Turner Contemporary Wedding in Margate
The Turner Contemporary is such a special place to hold a wedding celebration. Clean lines, huge windows, and endless light pouring in from the sky and sea. It’s modern, architectural, and quietly dramatic – a dream space if you love art, space, and simplicity.
The ceremony took place inside the gallery, beneath a huge whale illustration. It was bold, playful, and totally unforgettable. One of those visual moments that instantly sets the tone and stays in your mind.
Meaningful Details & Punjabi Heritage
Nadia is originally from Nottingham and comes from Punjabi heritage, and those influences were woven so thoughtfully through the day. Nothing felt forced or overdone – just subtle, intentional choices that added depth and meaning.
Red was the thread that tied everything together. Red is the traditional and highly auspicious choice for a bride’s wedding attire, which made it especially meaningful here. Warm red atmospheric lighting filled the eveing reception space, echoing the red bangles Nadia’s best friend had gifted her. The colour felt powerful, celebratory, and emotional all at once.

Red Confetti & Coastal Joy
After the ceremony, everyone spilled out onto the steps for confetti – and not just any confetti. Bright red confetti bursting into the air, laughter everywhere, the sea breeze doing its thing. It was joyful, bold, and full of movement.
During the evening meal, as the setting sun streamed into the gallery, a singer performed for the guests in the style of Frank Sinatra, adding a timeless atmosphere to the celebration.
Moments like this are why I love photographing weddings. Real reactions. Real happiness. Nothing staged – just pure celebration.
A Modern Margate Wedding
Nadia and Ed’s Turner Contemporary wedding felt like the perfect reflection of them. Relaxed, stylish, thoughtful, and full of heart. A celebration rooted in place, memory, and connection.
This day was shot on a mix of digital, 35mm, and 120 film, giving a variety of textures and tones that capture the day in a cinematic, timeless way.
Margate has this energy that’s hard to describe – creative, nostalgic, alive – and this day captured all of it.
