A Stoke Newington Town Hall wedding.

January 3, 2020

Raphaela and Mark’s Stoke Newington Town Hall wedding was a treat to photograph and here’s why…It’s just one of those unspoken rules of life that some of the best days you’ll ever have are laidback summer days with your family and friends in a garden, either at your house or at the pub. Raphaela and Mark took this truth to another level with their intimate London wedding, with a ceremony at Stoke Newington Town Hall and then the reception at Raphaela’s parents’ house in Islington. It was the perfect relaxed wedding day!

Though it was a super laidback day, it wasn’t all plain sailing in the run up – Mark fell off his bike about three weeks before the wedding and broke his collarbone, which resulted in him wearing a sling on the day. (And did I mention he’s an orchestra conductor? A pretty two-handed job if you ask me.) However, this didn’t stop him beaming as he and Raphaela walked down the aisle together, a modern alternative to being given away which I absolutely love. Raphaela is a classic singer, and so fittingly they walked down the aisle serenaded by a similarly talented guest and a violin player.

I love a Stoke Newington Town Hall wedding as the room is so interesting. Wood-panelled walls, velvet drapes and vaulted ceilings mean its full of historical charm, whilst still keeping airy, light and modern, thanks to its uber cool North London location.

Post-ceremony, and after being showered with Proper Confetti confetti outside Stoke Newington Town Hall, I took the Raphaela and Mark off for a few minutes for some couples’ portraits in the afternoon light. One of the best things about London weddings is the scenery at our disposal for photos, and Islington is no exception. Ivy-clad townhouses provided the perfect backdrop for some laidback, joyful portraits, before we made our way to Raphaela’s parents’ house to join the party in the back garden.

There, guests were enjoying delicious catering provided by private chef Barney John and a margarita bar, where  guests were invited (and trusted) to mix their own. Though they only booked me for a few hours, I captured so much love and laughter – a testament to how relaxed and enjoyable their intimate London wedding truly was!
