Holly and Tom’s London marquee wedding in Putney was a master class in extravagant enjoyment. I’ve photographed many marquee weddings and this one was high on the fun factor, with an oyster shucking service at the reception, and a guest appearance from a well-known TV celebrity. But more of that later…
Holly begun the day getting ready at her family home in Putney, being helped into her Sassi Holford dress by her bridesmaids, each looking perfectly gorgeous and relaxed in an eclectic mix of Asos dresses. There was an assortment of deep, lush, pink silky numbers, gingham gorgeousness and oversized collars. They all looked ace!
Holly’s elegant Sassi Holford dress was teamed with an intricately embroidered floral motif veil, and as she made her way down the stairs she was greeted by her proud Dad, before they both joined the rest of the bridal party in the garden for a glass of champagne and a few photos; they were then driven the short distance to the church.
The church service was beautiful with laughter and tears, and then it was out into the sunshine to a barrage of colourful confetti. Once the confetti had settled we took this moment to get a few more formal wedding photographs. My approach to photography is to capture real moments, documentary style but weddings need to strike a balance because it’s not often that you get all your family and friends together in one place, so it’s lovely to immortalise that with a few group shots. (I have a few tips on group photos, click here)
Holly and Tom were the ultimate hosts, and it was during the group shots that they organised the snack of champions (that’s packets of scampi fries and frazzles!) to be handed around so the waiting guests were well nourished while we took the group photos and before Holly & Tom led everyone back to the marquee reception at Holly’s family home.
Mary Jane Vaughan, known for her luxurious floral masterpieces, had performed some floral wizardry in the marquee! There were hanging installations, marquee archways bedecked with a vibrant colour palette of flowers, and the long tables were the perfect backdrop to the runner of stem vases, candles and jewel-coloured glassware.
While the guests tucked in to Bollinger, some very skilled oyster shuckers were skilfully opening oysters, and an array of delicious canapés were being circulated. We took this time to slip away for a quick wander around the block to make the most of the light (and the best tumbling wisteria lined walls Putney had to offer) for some intimate portraits, and then returned to a sumptuous feast provided by Weddings by Rhubarb.
As the sun began to set, and the lights in the marquee started to shimmer, Holly and Tom took to the dance floor for their first dance performed by their surprise wedding singer James Argent, aka Arg of The Only Way is Essex fame! The guests went wild and it was the most perfect and hilarious start of an epic evening party.... and went home to binge on old episodes of TOWIE!
