Hollie and Dan’s day was the coolest of the cool: a rooftop wedding in London, at the super chic Stratford Hotel, on New Year’s Eve. I mean – come on! The glamour!
I photographed Hollie’s sisters’ wedding a few years ago so it was so lovely to catch up with the family again anyway, but especially on such an exciting occasion and an incredible location.
The Stratford Hotel
The Stratford Hotel is part of the Manhattan Loft Gardens, an East London architectural masterpiece looking to redefine high-rise living. And with a raison d’etre like that, they’ve got to have a gorgeous rooftop situation, right?!
Let me tell you – it does not disappoint. The highline-style rooftop garden looks out over Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, with wider views of London stretching into the distance. Go back inside through the doors and you find yourself in Allegra, the 7th floor high-end dining restaurant with exceptional New York-meets-Copenhagen vibes. All of this meant it was the perfect location for Hollie and Dan’s rooftop wedding in London.

Glamorous rooftop wedding in London
If there’s one word to sum up Hollie and Dan’s rooftop wedding in London, I think it’d be glamorous (though obviously, there’s more words than just one – you’re reading a full blog post of them right now.) From the date to the setting it was always going to be magnificent, but Hollie and Dan took it to a whole new level with their outfits. Dan wore a black velvet jacket and bow tie, whilst Hollie stunned in a bridal mini dress from Reformation, complete with a huge, oversized bow at the back.
With this in mind they were after a very editorial look to their photos, and I particularly love the portraits we took on the rooftop in the evening (you’d have no idea that the weather wasn’t playing ball from looking at them, would you?!)
It’s also testament to how much a well-planned timeline can help you. Hollie and Dan only booked me for a shorter package of a few hours, but it covered all of the key moments of their rooftop wedding in London and beyond.

Kind words
But you don’t have to just take my word for it! Here’s what they had to say about their photos…
“Genuinely can’t rate or recommend Matilda enough. She’s incredibly professional yet relaxed at the same time, which is exactly the sort of energy you need around you on the big day! We had a winter wedding and the weather was playing up slightly, but Matilda made sure we didn’t just leave without ‘the shot’, but so many incredible photos. Matilda suggested we go back outside once it was dark and the photos she took are honestly a million times better than anything on my Pinterest board, we are obsessed! Multiple friends and family members also said how fantastic she was, and when it comes to capturing all the special moments during the speeches, her reflex skills are unmatched! Would highly, highly recommend.”
